Hello,
everyone! This is Alethia writing to give you the latest
update.
Yesterday we received the good news that
I can go home on Thursday. At home, I can do the
exercises they have been doing with me here, and someone
from physical therapy will come to the house two or
three times a week, for a couple of weeks.
In my
therapy here, I have been advancing very well. I can
walk with some weight on the operated side now, and walk
further than before, and also have been using steps and
doing well with that. The physical therapy people here
are really good, also the nursing staff, and we are
thankful for them. We are also very grateful for your
prayers, and I know that prayer is why I am doing so
well.
Please continue to pray: 1) as I keep
working at therapy; 2) go home and have to restrain
myself from doing some work that I'd like to do around
the house for a while yet; and 3) for wisdom as we begin
to make our plans for returning to Perú.

Newsflash! This
is Alethia writing! Finally I am feeling like my brain
is thinking better.
Yesterday (Wed.) I was
transferred from the hospital to the rehab facility. It
is small, a combination rehab/convalescent/nursing home
facility, and we’ve been told it’s one of the best for
physical therapy.
Now it is Friday, and I do
believe that this is an excellent place for getting
physical therapy. The slavedrivers, er, therapists, are
keeping me busy and getting me ready for being able to
go home. We are thankful for staff that is kind and
helpful.
Thank you all for your prayer, and
thanks to all who have written email notes to us. There
are way too many too answer individually, but we
appreciate each one. If anyone wishes to send a card or
note by snail mail, it should be sent to our home
address: 7596 Jurupa Road, Riverside, CA 92509, Emails
are always welcome. We don’t have have internet where I
am, but Jim brings the laptop with the emails written on
Word, so I can read them, and now with letters we can do
the reverse..I write it on Word, then at home he will
put it on email and send it from there.
With
thanks,
Alethia and Jim

Usually they want to get people up walking in 24 hours,
but since Alethia has a partially paralized vocal chord,
they didn't want to put a tube down her throat so they
gave her spinal anesthesia. It seems that takes a little
longer to get out of the system. Her iron was low and
they gave her two units of blood. After that she began
to perk up more. Sunday it seems the physical therapists
had Memorial day weekend off, so no one came to get her
up to walk, but yesterday (Monday) she finally got up.
She was glad to be able to sit up for the first time in
several days, and the first steps were hard. It was a
lot easier in the afternoon.
Thanks again for praying,
Jim

Dear Praying Friends,
After a ladies'
class, Alethia was in the parking lot and tripped over a
concrete parking divider. She landed on her right hip,
and since she couldn't get up, they called an ambulance.
I met her in Emergency and when it was x-rayed, they
found that she had broken her femur just below the ball
that fits into the hip socket. She'll have to have the
ball replaced. She just got into a hospital room this
evening and they'll plan to do the operation tomorrow
evening (Friday, May 28).
Thanks for praying,
Jim and
Alethia
